Claremont: An Ideal Cycling Destination

Claremont is an ideal cycling destination with beautiful bike trails and many exploration opportunities.

Honored as a Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists, Claremont’s streets are ideal for biking. With bikes and bike racks around every corner, it’s easier than ever to enjoy this popular pastime. Whether you’re a seasoned rider or just getting started, Claremont is the perfect place to visit with some biking buddies.

You can make your trip to Claremont an eco-friendly outing by leaving your gas-guzzler at home. We recommend taking alternative transportation and bringing your bikes with you. Metrolink commuter trains operate from the six Southern California counties, including from L. A.’s Union Station to Claremont Station hourly. The ticket cost is between $2 and $10, and the journey takes 58 min. You can also travel from some of the other California counties of San Bernardino, Riverside, Ventura, Orange, and North San Diego to Oceanside.

Claremont is a charming and vibrant city with so many wonderful things to do and see. You can easily reach popular destinations by walking or biking from the Claremont train station, located in the heart of Claremont Village. Once you’re there, you’ll find hotels, restaurants and shops in every direction. Claremont Village is relatively small, so it’s easy to get around without getting lost.

Biking is a great activity for all ages, and it would be fun to bring the kiddos along for the ride. A biking adventure is a great way for the whole family to spend quality time together without doing anything too strenuous. It’s a low-impact activity, so it’s easy on the joints. Make your biking adventure fun for everyone involved by following a few tips:

  1. Choose the right bikes. If you have young kids in tow, consider getting them trail-a-bikes or trailers. Electric bikes can be a big help for longer trips – just make sure everyone is comfortable with them before setting off.
  2. Plan your route carefully. Take into account things like terrain, traffic, and rest stops. It’s also important to factor in how much time everyone has—no one wants to be rushed or end up too tired halfway through the trip.
  3. Bring along snacks and drinks to keep everyone fueled up. And don’t forget the sunscreen!
  4. Take breaks often so everyone can stretch their legs and enjoy the scenery.

Once you arrive in Claremont, a great place to start your bike tour is at the Cheese Cave, where you can pick up gourmet sandwiches for the perfect family picnic.

Claremont is a fairly safe place for biking when you have kids, with so many things to do and see. Traverse the neighborhoods and check out the beautiful, shady streets lined with lovely homes and majestic views.

You could really get to know each Claremont College campus by biking them. What a great idea for teens thinking about future schools. When you’re done admiring the architecture and marveling at the manicured lawns and gardens, be sure to stop at one of the many dessert shops for a sweet treat.

Afterward, check out some of the shops that are part of the Fair Trade movement and have helped bring about modern ecotourism sensibilities with products that reduce poverty, improve lives and protect the planet. Claremont has the distinction of being the first Fair Trade Town in Southern California. Shop at Grove Vintage for jewelry, vomFASS for olive oil and wine, and Rio de Ojas for Haitian art and accessories.

Biking is also a fun way to explore the great outdoors. The Claremont Hills Wilderness Park is an interesting place for cyclists and hikers. Here you can take on the terrain or enjoy a relaxing ride on the five miles of winding, shared-use pathways.

Looking for a challenge? Avid cyclists can tackle the AMGEN Tour of California’s route to Mt. Baldy

Either way, you’ll enjoy views as far away as downtown L.A., Catalina Island, and the Inland Empire basin.

Need a bike tune-up? Jax Bicycle Center and The Velo can take care of any bicycle needs. They offer a quick turnaround, convenient hours, and friendly service. You’ll be biking again in no time.

Have fun! Biking is a great way to explore Claremont Village and get some exercise at the same time. So relax and enjoy yourself!
