Freeze Wild: Custom Native Plant Inspired Ice Creams – July 2023

August 6 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

California Botanic Garden (CalBG) has partnered with Bert & Rocky’s Cream Company in Claremont to create three unique frozen desserts that incorporate the flavors of California native plants grown and harvested at CalBG. Freeze Wild programming will feature an in-person tasting debut during CalBG’s Flower Hour: Freeze Wild event (sold out), plus a take-home selection of pints available for order and pick-up in early August.

Freeze Wild will feature three delicious, custom frozen dessert flavors:
● Chocolate Orange Bay Ice Cream: Rich chocolate and tangy orange infused with a hint of
earthy, spicy, and a little provocative California Bay Laurel.
● Bluecurls ‘n Cream: Light, creamy honey with soothing notes of pine and lavender from the
flowers of an iconic and fragrant California shrub, the Woolly Bluecurls.
● Elderflower Lemon Sorbet: Floral notes from the delicate blooms of the Blue Elderberry pair
delightfully with bright lemon to create this refreshing dairy-free dessert.

Freeze Wild: Take Home Boxes will include one pint of each frozen dessert flavor, recipe cards, and an invitation to an online panel discussion about the featured plants. Take-home kit participants will choose a pick-up time on August 5th or 6th upon ordering. At the virtual event on August 6th from 3 – 4 pm, experts will share the ecological importance of each featured plant species, its medicinal and culinary uses, and how you can include these plants in your home garden. Pricing: $65 General Public or $55 CalBG Member. Purchase/info:
