ClaremontVID_Wallop-2015_C22Looking for something entertaining to do near the Inland Empire this weekend? Claremont welcomes out-of-town visitors and Southern California locals to enjoy our arts, music and outdoor events. From Friday Nights Live to the Midsummer Shakespeare Festival, our calendar is chock full of rousing events and annual festivals.

There’s something fun to do for everyone. The weekly Claremont Farmers and Artisans Market every Sunday is the largest of its kind in the region. For arts and crafts lovers, there’s the monthly First Saturday Art Walk and the Village Venture Arts & Crafts Faire in October.

Families flock to events such as Things That Go Bump in the Night at California Botanic Garden in October and Inland Pacific Ballet’s The Nutcracker in December. And nature enthusiasts can celebrate and discover the beauty of various native plants at the Annual Wild Flower Show and Festival in April and other botanic garden events.

Andrée M. Mahoney: Spirit Voyager
Celebrates the artist’s seventy-year exploration of the richness of life through mixed-media painting and ceramic sculpture. A visual storyteller on a lifelong, transcendental quest to transform spirit into matter, Mahoney seeks to strike a balance between color and form, intuition and meaning.
Mahoney came to Claremont in 1950 to study art at Scripps College and honed her skills in the Millard Sheets Studio. She later earned her M.Ed and MFA from Claremont Graduate University in the 1960s. Thereafter Mahoney served as Professor of Art at Chaffey College for more than 30 years.
The exhibition is curated by the artist’s daughter Monica Lynne Mahoney.

Vince Skelly: A Conversation with Trees
Recent work by Claremont artist Vince Skelly. Carving tree trunks, many harvested in the aftermath of the epic wind storm of January 2022, Skelly explores the space between sculptural form and functional object.
Using wood from sustainable sources is always an important part of Skelly’s process. The storm offered, not only a bountiful supply of wood but also an opportunity to create new life out of incredible destruction and loss. Some of this work was first presented in a solo show organized by Tiwa Select in Los Angeles and featured in the June 2022 issue of Architectural Digest.
